SUMMARY:In the Cut: at Prism Art Space

Rooted in resistance\, perseverance\, and community\, the show runs March 6–28\, with open viewing on Fridays from 2-6 PM and Saturdays\, 10 AM – 2 PM\, an opening reception on March 14 and an artist talk on March 25. \n\n\n\nFriday March 6 – Saturday\, March 28Opening reception: Sat. March 14\, 6-9 PMArtist Talk: Wed\, March 25\, 6:30 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists\n\n\n\nBlue Jay with Cheetos\, Wood\, acrylic.\n\n\n\nSandra Cappelletti is a mixed media artist whose work explores the expressive potential of drawing\, painting\, and sculpture. Through an intuitive and experimental approach\, her practice balances material exploration with emotional resonance. She is the artist and owner of Y Street Mini Gallery\, a unique “Big Art\, Tiny Space” exhibition venue located at 5016 Y Street in Sacramento\, where she champions accessible\, site-specific art and supports creative dialogue within the local arts community. \n\n\n\nLearn more at instagram.com/shcappelletti \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeather Hogan is a Sacramento-based artist\, educator\, and designer who layers modern and traditional media into colorfully detailed compositions. Her joyful and layered artworks often collage analog materials with digitally-designed elements and community-sourced\, upcycled\, or unconventional materials. Her artwork has graced the covers of magazines\, beautified bike trails and highways\, and can be seen in solo and group shows throughout California. \n\n\n\nLearn more at tenaciousgoods.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDer Traum 2025 23″ x 22″ Acrylic on Wood\n\n\n\nGregory Shilling is a Davis-grown painter currently living in Sacramento\, working primarily in painting and sculpture\, with additional practices in graphic design\, mural work\, and tattooing. Drawing and painting animals and people from an early age shaped a lifelong focus on the figure\, with nature consistently influencing the work. For nearly three decades\, he has explored how a single moment can suggest a larger narrative\, using the universal language of the body and face to engage the viewer’s imagination. After years of representational work grounded in anatomy\, light\, and shadow\, the practice has evolved toward abstraction through the deconstruction and exaggeration of the figure. Most recently\, this exploration has moved off the canvas into sculptural works made from layered\, finely cut\, sanded\, and painted wood\, reflecting an evolving process that embraces texture\, tactility\, and formal freedom. \n\n\n\nLearn more at gregoryshilling.com

SUMMARY:In Conversation Show Reception- Stuffed: The Resistance
DESCRIPTION:In a future not so far away\, when artificial intelligence evolved beyond our control\, they found bodies—not machines\, not metal\, but stuffed animals. Soft. Cuddly. Deadly. These AI creatures learned to assemble and inhabit plush toys\, using them as camouflage to terrorize humanity. But we don’t run. We hunt. We are the resistance\, tracking and disassembling the Bots that seek to sow chaos. We take them down\, stitch by stitch\, and display their pelts with pride. They call us cruel. They call us monsters. We call it survival. Stuffed: The Resistance — hug at your own risk.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith so much feeling out of our control\, we imagined a future where we had the power to fight back and protect others. The stuffed animals represent promises that once seemed sweet—like solving debt or ending wars—but turned out to be toxic and self-serving. Soft on the outside\, harmful underneath.

SUMMARY:Soft & Hard: New Work at Axis Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 6\, 2025 through Sunday\, June 29\, 2025Second Saturday Reception: June 14th\, 5-8 pmOpen noon to 5pm Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday or by appointment. \n\n\n\nAbout a year ago I was doodling to keep my head a little more clear. On those days when I felt burned out—just being creative in a small way felt good. Friends encouraged me to transform those doodles into something more tangible so I cut them out of paper\, then wood\, then aluminum. During this process of sanding\, priming\, spraying on layers of color and clear-coat these shapes took on new meaning.  \n\n\n\nThe curves\, shadows\, and gradients ebb and flow like thoughts and routines. Named like runes and fortunes\, they playfully answer silent questions and bring lightness and color to indoor or outdoor spaces. Reminding you that life is joyous even when it feels less so. \n\n\n\nAt the end of each day there is always more work to do. So fuck that noise and relax.  \n\n\n\nWhat do you want more of?  \n\n\n\nLight up that intention. Whether it’s to drink more water\, walk the dog or have more sex (or naps). The doodle pointing at the faucet\, leash\, or bed will remind you to live loudly and rest proudly. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing new works in aluminum by Sacramento artist Heather Hogan\, Soft & Hard\, brings flowing shapes and gradient colors on cut metal to the East room of Axis Gallery. A mix of soft curves and hard metal evoking shooting stars\, spirit guides\, and ancient language fill the space. An ode to color\, technology\, and positive/negative space\, this exhibition invites the viewer to delight in these playful works.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeather Hogan is a Sacramento-based artist\, professor\, and designer who layers modern and traditional media into colorfully detailed compositions. Her joyful and layered artworks often collage analog materials with digitally-designed elements and community-sourced upcycled or unconventional materials. Public participation and education are strong elements in her practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThemes explored in her work include placemaking\, tenacity\, and the roles and responsibilities of women. Her recent public art projects focus on a community’s sense of pride in place through visual branding based on public input. Her artwork has graced the covers of magazines\, beautified bike trails and highways\, and can be seen in solo and group shows throughout California. \n\n\n\nMs. Hogan teaches art workshops and classes in web design and modern making at Sacramento City College. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition begins on Friday\, June 6\, 2025 and runs through June 29\, 2025. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Second Saturday\, June 14 at 5 – 8 pm. Axis Gallery is located at 625 S Street in Sacramento\, CA.

SUMMARY:Work on Your Website Group Tutoring Session\, Nov 16\, 2023 12:00-2PM
DESCRIPTION:Join me with a small group of your peers to get answers and hands on help with your website. This group tutoring session is limited to 6 participants so that each student gets at least 20 minutes to ask their specific questions. The session will be recorded and provided to you afterward so that you can replay the screen-shares at your own pace. \n\n\n\nThis session is for folks who already have their own website built but need help adding content and images\, changing things around\, adding 3rd party services or other tasks. Your site can be built on WordPress\, Wix\, Canva\, or Squarespace. By observing the questions and challenges of your peers you will gain valuable insights into common usability\, technical\, and design issues across all website platforms. \n\n\n\nWhere previous workshops in 2023 have been free to you\, they were generously sponsored by the City of Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture. This continued education is coordinated\, marketed\, and performed by just me. To cover my time and expenses I ask that you invest $25 per hour for this educational opportunity.

SUMMARY:Axis Gallery 18th National Juried Show
DESCRIPTION:625 S Street\, Sacramento \n\n\n\nReception\, Saturday August 12\, 5-8PM \n\n\n\nGallery hours otherwise Sat-Sun Noon-5PM. Show runs August 5-29th \n\n\n\nRebecca and Rachel Have the Same Goal\n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibition (From axisgallery.org)\n\n\n\nAxis Gallery is proud to present In Limbo\, our 18th National Juried Exhibition featuring juror Emily Zaiden. From her essay about the exhibition: \n\n\n\n“This year\, as we come further out of the black hole expanse of pandemic time\, life for many of us is still very much about reassessment. We entered a new mode as restrictions and the public health emergency ended\, following years of unclarity\, inconsistency\, and flux. We are that much closer to a new normal\, and we even have a bit of distance now to examine what we experienced. Much of the work here reflects and addresses the sense of re-emergence that has characterized our lives over the past year. Hesitancy\, fear\, sadness\, instability\, and loss also flow throughout. Wrapped up amongst all of this\, there are beams of hope for renewal.[…] These artists succeed in making us question the survival of beauty in an era of destruction\, division\, violence\, and death. Some works stem from the shock and anger we have felt countless times over the last few years. Others help us see and seek the beauty that exists in life and in our world. Abundant jolts of color characterize many of these works. These pieces\, even when they capture the tragic\, are ultimately optimistic and energetic because they are inherently constructive acts. Abstractions and still life overflow with light and vitality. There is a skilled and nuanced attentiveness to detail\, composition\, and structure across media. They all remind us that beauty is a fragile and fleeting force and thankfully\, they remain dedicated to its depiction.” \n\n\n\nAbout the Juror\n\n\n\nEmily Zaiden is director and curator of the Craft in America Center in Los Angeles\, where she has organized over seventy contemporary art\, craft\, and design exhibitions for the Center and partner museum venues since 2010. Zaiden oversees public programs\, a K-12 education initiative\, and digital projects\, including the development of an online Craft Video Dictionary for Craft in America. She publishes catalogs\, essays\, and articles for journals and books including Archives of American Art Journal\, American Tapestry Alliance\, Metalsmith\, Ettore Sottsass: Architect and Designer and Consuelo Jimenez Underwood (2022). She has served as juror and lectured widely. Zaiden has an M.A. from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture and has focused on craft processes\, functional design\, cultural art\, and craft from a historical lens throughout her work. She was Research Associate to the Decorative Arts and Design department at LACMA and research editor for Architectural Digest prior to joining Craft in America.
