Made from upcycled polyester with sublimation collage, stuffed with upcycled polyfill. The scales are fused bubble wrap stuffed with plastic waste.

Learned some new tricks today at @makerspacescc !
I heat pressed sublimated prints on upcycled polyester sheets, then did some free-form stitching with the #juki on top of the clouds ⛅️ and finished the sample with the surger around the edge.
That's 3 machines on one project. How many more can I use? Ideas?

Attempting collage with sublimation prints at @mak

Attempting collage with sublimation prints at @makerspacescc today. Here's how:

1. Print gradients, my own artwork and public domain images
2. Cut, tear, and rearrange sublimation paper on upcycled tablecloth on board for easy transfer to the heart press.
3. Heat press at 380 degrees for 45 seconds
4. Peel away paper to reveal print.
5. Play with ghost prints (reusing already pressed papers) .

It was so fun and satisfying! This will be one of the projects in MAKR 140 this spring!

I've been trying to find ways to limit computer prep time in the #makerspace since most of the machines start with digital designs. 🙃

End of season soccer merch! This is how i finished those sublimation prints into pennants. Lots of trial and error.

I printed them on an upcycled table cloth. The small ones were too small to stuff and sew so I just left a raw edge and sewed a pocket for a bamboo chopstick as the flag pole. I tried a bunch of liners but it took to long, I had 13 to make.

The bigger ones worked with a backing fabric. I stuck a giant bamboo chopstick in those for the coaches gifts.

The stickers were a hit too! 👌

I spent the day learning to make stuff at @makerspacescc! I printed designs on a #sublimationprinter and transferred them onto fabric (upcycled table cloth) using a #heatpress at 380 degrees or so.

Sign ups for spring classes start very soon. I'm teaching #MAKR140 with @poszart

Lots of trail and error... one stupid button on the printer held me up for hours! So I printed stickers while troubleshooting.

My son's soccer team is the Pirates so my learning projects are team gifts for the end of season party 🥳.

It's been thrilling and rewarding to work with passionate and insightful community organizers and so many kind and capable staff at Caltrans. 😊

I can't belive these will be cut in steel to last 40+ years! I actually hope I get stuck in traffic to look at them for a while.
