The Curious, The Useful, and The Strange

New Member Show at Axis Gallery

Axis Gallery proudly presents “The Curious, The Useful, and The Strange,” a group exhibition highlighting the work of our five newest members: Steve Briscoe, Kerry Cottle, Heather Hogan, Frank J. Stockton, and Adero Willard.

The five new members of Axis Gallery, seemingly divergent in their styles and approaches, share a maker’s bond. Things are made by hand, however much technology may assist in the process. Time is taken or reserved for the making of new work, of exploring the next avenue. There is an experimental vein to the works, asking, “What if…?” and then building on the answer.

Each artist has joined Axis for similar reasons: a need for the community of other artists who speak the same language of creativity and exploration as well as an outlet for their endeavors to be shared. Some are new to the area, some are in the academic workforce, all are producing mature work that reflects honest engagement with contemporary issues, personal narratives, and the cultural zeitgeist.
